TechSmith Camtasia / Snagit
Overview
To advance online education in Science and assist instructors in moving courses online during the COVID-19 crisis, the Faculty of Science maintains a site license for TechSmith Camtasia and Snagit.
Camtasia is a best-in-class screen recorder and video editor, available for Windows and macOS. It is feature-packed for more advanced users, while remaining accessible to beginners.
Snagit is a powerful screen capture tool, also available for Windows and macOS. It allows you to take precise, clean screenshots, perfect for including in written literature such as lab manuals and tutorials.
Which Product Should I Use?
While there is some feature overlap in both products, we recommend the following use cases:
| Camtasia | Best for recording and editing longer, more formal videos, such as lectures and labs. |
| Snagit | Best for taking screenshots for written materials, and taking quick, informal videos to demonstrate something to a colleague, for example. |
Eligibility
These products are available to all regular, full-time faculty and staff in the Faculty of Science. The license does not include undergraduate or graduate student access.
A very limited number of licenses are available for temporary and contract employees. These will be distributed based on need and precedence will go to those working to move coursework online. If we are unable to accommodate your request, there is still the option of purchasing the Camtasia / Snagit bundle under Techsmith's educational pricing, which offers a generous discount over regular pricing.

Obtaining a License Key
To unlock the software, you will need to enter a license key. Click the button below and log in with your Western credentials to obtain a key.
